REXBURG — A warrant has been issued for an Idaho Falls woman who did not show up for sentencing on ten felony charges.
Peggy A. Rodriguez was scheduled to be sentenced in Madison County Monday morning for crimes related to a forged check cashing scheme. She pleaded guilty to ten felonies in June.
Peggy, 40, along with her co-defendant, Nicolas C. Rodriguez, 36, were arrested in March by Rexburg police while Peggy attempted to cash a forged check at Quick Cash on the 200 block of East Second North.
In September, District Judge Gregory Moeller sentenced Nicolas Rodriguez to two fixed years in prison and eight years indeterminate. Moeller gave Rodriguez credit for six months served in jail and ordered him to pay a $1,000 fine.
When Nicolas is released from the Idaho Department of Correction he will go through deportation hearings.
Peggy was present in court while Nicolas was sentenced. She was originally charged with felony theft by deception.
Peggy told officers she was high on meth and court records show she also admitted to being involved with a group of people who defraud cash loan stores and share the profits.
Madison County Prosecutor Sid Brown later filed an amended criminal complaint against Peggy adding nine more charges. Those nine felonies were for possession of forged checks.
Court documents indicate Peggy is also being investigated in Idaho Falls, Blackfoot and Pocatello for similar crimes of fraud.
A bench warrant has been issued for Peggy Rodriguez’s arrest. Once she is in custody, she will be sentenced and likely be charged with additional crimes.
