CALDWELL — A Nampa woman accused of trying to “baptize” her baby in an irrigation canal pleaded guilty Friday to both felony and misdemeanor injury to child.
Regina Dilworth, 22, was arrested in August after she told police there were voices telling her she needed to “find God” and “baptize” her children. She reportedly admitted to police that she had injected a combination of bath salts and Dilaudid, a narcotic pain killer, the night before the incident.
She is set for sentencing at 9:15 a.m. March 15.
A passerby reported the incident after seeing Dilworth jump into the ditch when holding the infant while Dilworth’s second child stood on the bank crying, according to court documents. The witness said she saw Dilworth submerged in the water, and the infant was up to its neck in water.
The passerby jumped into the water in the 400 block of Dufur Street and took the baby from Dilworth.
Police later determined that Dilworth walked about one mile from her home to the ditch. The ditch is about 10 inches deep and 3 feet wide with running water.
Dilworth has other pending drug, theft and fraud charges that remain open cases.
