REXBURG — The Rexburg Police Department is looking for a man who threw a smoke bomb into a grocery store and pickup truck Wednesday night.
Police were called to Broulim’s on Main Street around 8:55 p.m. after receiving a report that the explosive was emitting smoke and a foul smell in the lobby of the supermarket.
“Security footage of the incident shows the male individual approaching the front of the store, lighting something behind a vehicle then running toward the door and throwing it in,” Rexburg Police Capt. Randy Lewis tells EastIdahoNews.com.
Six minutes later, the driver of a Chevrolet pickup truck reported four passengers in a silver Toyota Prius pulled up next to him in the parking lot and threw a smoke bomb in the bed of his truck. The truck driver tried to follow the Prius but lost site of the vehicle.
“These situations aren’t jokes. They can lead to serious problems if there are flammable liquids or other items around that could ignite,” Lewis says. “Explosives can take a life or injure someone or cause destruction to a building. It’s not funny.”
Police ask anyone with information on the incidents to call (208) 359-3008.
