The following is a news release from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.

IDAHO FALLS — At approximately 3:40 p.m. this afternoon, Bonneville County Sheriff deputies responded to the 3600 block of E. Elswood in Idaho Falls to assist Child Protective Services with the removal of a child due to extremely poor living conditions.

During this process, a male resident, later identified as Adrian J. Kovalsky, became belligerent with deputies. He kicked items around the yard and residence before eventually calming down and going back to his room.

As the process was continuing, Kovalsky emerged from a back bedroom of the residence with a handgun near a deputy and began loading a magazine and racking a round.

While that deputy gave commands to Kovalsky, another deputy quickly had the rest of the occupants in the house exit and called for more assistance. After a brief standoff and confrontation, Kovalsky complied with commands to put the weapon down and was taken into custody.

Kovalsky was transported to the Bonneville County Jail where he was booked for aggravated assault on certain personnel – a felony.

Deputies were able to recover the weapon and found it to be a CO2 powered airsoft pistol very closely resembling a semi-automatic handgun.

Kovalsky lived at the residence but was not connected to the parents or child that was being removed.
