AMMON — The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a prank that has some parents of Hillcrest High School students upset.

A small group of students placed pepper extract on door handles in the school Thursday, according to Sgt. Bryan Lovell. Other students came in contact with the extract and the substance got in their eyes, causing burning and irritation.

“It appears this was a prank, and fortunately there weren’t any major injuries reported,” Lovell tells EastIdahoNews.com. “Some of the parents are deciding whether they want to press charges.”

Security was able to identify the suspects through surveillance video and they were brought in for questioning Thursday, according to Bonneville Joint School District 93 spokesman Phil Campbell.

“Parents were notified of the incident, and students had the option to go home for the day,” Campbell says. “None of the students were transported by ambulance from the school to the hospital.”

Lovell asks anyone with additional information on the prank to contact the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.
